Abstract

This study investigated the challenges faced in teaching and learning business studies in public
secondary schools in Ngong Sub-County, Kajiado County, Kenya. A descriptive survey research
design was employed, targeting 130 respondents, including 120 students and 10 teachers. The
study found that students' attitudes, teaching resources, and teaching methodologies significantly
influence the effectiveness of teaching and learning business studies. The results revealed that
students' attitudes towards learning business studies are shaped by their perceptions, motivation,
and self-efficacy, while teaching resources, including physical facilities, materials, and
technology, play a crucial role in the learning process. The study recommends that policymakers
and educators prioritize the development of positive attitudes towards learning business studies,
provide adequate teaching resources, and promote innovative teaching methodologies. The
findings of this study have implications for policymakers, educators, and stakeholders in the
education sector, aiming to improve the quality of business studies education in public secondary
schools in Kenya.
