This research explores thefactors of sustainable development of industrialization in employment
creation in KajiadoCentral Sub County, Kajiado county, Kenya. The specific objectives are:
Impact of industrialization as an employment rates, relationship between sustainable
development and employment creation and the role of government in promoting employment.
Using a mixed-method approach, data was gathered from 60 respondents through structured
questionnaires and interviews. The findings indicate that industrialization contributes to
employment, though with concerns over job stability. Sustainable development, particularly
green jobs and sustainable agriculture, emerges as a viable source of long-term employment.
Government policy, while recognized for its role in youth programs, faces setbacks due to
corruption and poor implementation. The study concludes that integrated and inclusive policy
measures are crucial in addressing unemployment and promoting equitable development in rural
areas.
In Kenya, Vision 2030 outlines industrialization as a path to economic transformation
(Government of Kenya:2007). However, implementation has not always prioritized labor-
intensive sectors (World Bank:2021). Manufacturing has grown, but its employment absorption
remains low (KNBS:2023). The Keynesian framework would push policymakers to redirect
incentives toward industries like agro-processing, textile, and construction—sectors with higher
employment potential (Tcherneva:2012; Skidelsky:2009). Additionally, integrating TVET
(Technical and Vocational Education and Training) programs with public works could further
enhance employability while aligning labor supply with industrial demand (UNESCO:2022;
ILO:2022).
