College Institutional Repository Academic Archive

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) strategies
on procurement efficiency at Wilson Airport, Kenya, which is a re-known hub in the aviation
sector. This research is guided by the following specific objectives:
i. To establish the role of commitment in improving procurement efficiency for Wilson
Airport in Kenya.
ii. To examine the impact of effective communication on procurement efficiency for
Wilson Airport in Kenya
iii. To assess how supplier relationship management enhances procurement efficiency in
Wilson Airport Kenya.
The study focused on commitment, effective communication, and SRM practices and their
influence on procurement efficiency as the research objectives. The research employed a
descriptive survey design with a census sampling technique, targeting 30 procurement
officers and department heads. Data was collected with the use of structured questionnaires
and analyzed through descriptive statistics and themes via SPSS. Findings reveal that SRM
strategies, which include supplier segmentation, governance, performance management, and
development, significantly enhance procurement efficiency, achieving a 12% cost reduction,
1.8-week lead times, 92% quality compliance, and 93% process transparency. Commitment
and communication enhance trust and collaboration, therefore reducing transaction costs and
improving supplier reliability. The study notes that SRM accounts for 80.1% of procurement
efficiency variance (R² = 0.801, F = 8.635, p = 0.002). Recommendations made are to
strengthen SRM practices, enhance communication mechanisms, and increasing market
survey frequency to align with the global standards. The study contributes to understanding
SRM’s contribution in optimizing procurement in Kenya’s aviation industry and suggests
further research on technology-driven SRM and cross-sectoral applications.
