This research has analyzed the influences to the implementation of environmental knowledge
among the junior secondary schools children in Ngong Sub-County, Kajiado County. The study
was informed by the necessity to identify the impact of the teacher-related issues, access and
utilization of instructional resources, students attitudes, and community and parent involvement
on the effectiveness of environmental education. The descriptive survey design was utilized, and
the participants who were considered in the research were the teachers and learners. The
quantitative data were gathered with the help of questionnaires and processed with the help of
quantitative and qualitative methods. The results have shown that competency and interest of the
teacher and their pedagogical activities could largely influence learning of environmental
knowledge among learners. Nevertheless, poor teaching and learning resources and insufficient
inclusion of practical lessons were barriers to the effective teaching and learning. Although the
learners tended to have positive attitudes to the environmental issues, they usually had little
opportunities to use these environmental issues in real life due to dearth of exposure to real
practices related to the same. Besides, the involvement of parents and the community was also
reported to be erratic where parents promoted environmental learning at home and some were
passive. However, local agencies and community projects were very helpful with their
sensitization and resources. The research paper finds that effective application of environmental
knowledge involves intensified training of teachers, the offering of proper learning resources,
effective participation of the learners and well-organized parental and community interventions.
It also suggests an increased partnership between schools, families and local organizations to
promote a sustainable environmental education.
